Among Elizabeth’s men, an honourable mention must go to Elizabeth’s comptroller (controller) of her household – mainly during her years as princess. Here is his portrait, sketched by Holbein:

He was honoured by a knighthood upon Elizabeth’s accession, and his importance in her life was indicated, upon his death in 1560, by his burial in Westminster Abbey.
